In case of an accident …
- Stop your vehicle if it is clear, safe and legal
- Move your vehicle out of the roadway, if it is safe (in some states, it is against the law to move the vehicle from the place where the accident occurred)
- Turn off the ignition
- Turn on 4-ways if they are working
- Make a first aid check of all persons involved in the accident
- If possible, call 911 for police and emergency medical services, if needed
- Mark the scene with flares or reflective triangles, if possible
- Gather the names and contact information of persons in the accident, as well as witnesses
- Ask to see the other driver’s license and write it down
- Exchange insurance information
- DO NOT DISCUSS FAULT or make statements about the accent to anyone but the police
- Get a copy of the police report and notify your insurance company
