In case of an accident …

  • Stop your vehicle if it is clear, safe and legal
  • Move your vehicle out of the roadway, if it is safe (in some states, it is against the law to move the vehicle from the place where the accident occurred)
  • Turn off the ignition
  • Turn on 4-ways if they are working
  • Make a first aid check of all persons involved in the accident
  • If possible, call 911 for police and emergency medical services, if needed
  • Mark the scene with flares or reflective triangles, if possible
  • Gather the names and contact information of persons in the accident, as well as witnesses
  • Ask to see the other driver’s license and write it down
  • Exchange insurance information
  • DO NOT DISCUSS FAULT or make statements about the accent to anyone but the police
  • Get a copy of the police report and notify your insurance company
